What is the story of Prahlad?
According to Hindu religion, Holika Dahan is done in the memory of devotee Prahlad. Despite being born in a demon clan, he was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Prahlad’s father was King Hiranyakashyap.
Hiranyakashipu was very angry with his son Prahlad. Because he did not want Prahlad to worship Lord Vishnu. Seeing Prahlad’s devotion to Lord Vishnu, he always remained angry.
He tried to kill Prahlad several times. But compared to Prahlad’s devotion, even death could not harm him. Holika sat in the fire to kill Prahlad. But by the grace of Lord Vishnu, Prahlad was saved and Holika was destroyed in the fire. From that time Holika Dahan festival started being celebrated. After the day of Holika, Holi of colors started being played.
Holi also has connection with Radha-Krishna
Holi, the festival of colors, is the festival of unbreakable love between Lord Shri Krishna and Radha Rani. In ancient times, Krishna and Radha Rani started Holi in Barsana. From then onwards, Lathmar Holi and Holi of flowers started being played in Mathura.
Holi connection of Mother Parvati and Bhole
Mother Parvati and Shiv Shankar also have a connection with Holi. Actually, Mother Parvati was doing penance to marry Shiva. On the other hand, Lord Shankar was also engrossed in rigorous penance. All the gods including Indra, the king of the gods, wanted Lord Shankar and Parvati to get married. The reason behind this was Tadkasur. Tadka could have been killed by the hands of Lord Shiva and the son of Mother Parvati.
Kamadeva was sent to break the penance of Shankar ji. When he broke Shiva’s penance, Lord Shankar became very angry and opened his third eye, which destroyed Kamadeva.
After this all the gods prepared Lord Shankar for marriage with Parvati. After this, all the gods celebrated the festival of Holi with great pomp and show.
