On the defeat to KKR, DC's bowling coach said, 'We will not make any excuses...'

Kolkata, April 30 (IANS). After DC lost by 7 wickets in the match against KKR at Eden Gardens after two consecutive wins at home, bowling coach James Hopes said that the team will not hide behind any excuse for the defeat.

The match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was one-sided but Phil Salt's stormy innings pushed Delhi on the backfoot.

Delhi, who came to bat first, had a bad start. After losing consecutive wickets, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav's unbeaten 35 runs in 26 balls, Delhi Capitals with great difficulty scored 153/9 in 20 overs.

However, home team KKR easily achieved this target in 16.3 overs thanks to Phil Salt's 68 runs on 33 balls.

DC have lost six and won five of their 11 matches so far. Currently DC is at sixth position in the points table. Delhi still has three matches left.

“Our fate is still in our hands. If we can win three matches and get 16 points, the result could be quite good,” Hopes said.

“But right now we have a week off where we can again make some changes to the strategy and see if we need to think about anything a little differently. We are looking forward to two of the three games.” Going back to Delhi. Obviously this is a very high scoring pitch at the moment and we have to go to Bengaluru also. We missed an opportunity and now we will not hide behind any excuse for that.”

Speaking about the decision to bat first, Hopes explained, “The idea behind it was that we would try to put a big score on the board. However, we did not succeed in that.

Delhi Capitals will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next match on May 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
