Indian Air Force aircraft flew on the Ganga Expressway under construction in Shahjahanpur, UP. The Air Force’s most advanced fighter aircraft and cargo aircraft flew on a three -and -a -half kilometer airstrip prepared on this expressway. Aeritrip present in Shahjahanpur will be the first such strip in the country where Air Force fighters will be able to land at day and night. According to officials, fighter aircraft will also be able to rehearsed here. From the security point of view, about 250 CCTV cameras have been installed on both sides of the airstrip. With this, UP has become the first state in India, which has four expressways Aeritrip.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “This is not just a road, but it is a runway for the lifeline of development and national security.” Aeritrip on the Ganga Expressway is the country’s first landing strip built in Shahjahapur, UP. The 3.5 km long airsterrip is equipped to handle the landing of the Air Force Jet aircraft both day and night, which helps to conduct a continuous military operations and test the suitability of the expressway as an alternative runway in emergency situations. The importance of airsterrip is to strengthen India’s defense readiness by setting up an alternative runway for the Indian Air Force during the emergency or war.

Agra-Lucknow Expressway (Uttar Pradesh): It was the first expressway in India, used as an emergency landing facility by the Indian Air Force. The 3.2 km long part near Unnao was specially designed for the operation of fighter aircraft. In 2017, the Indian Air Force conducted a major practice, where Miraj-20000, Sukhoi SU-30 MKI and Jaguar fighter jets successfully landing and flew. The expressway is designed with reinforced concrete, which makes it suitable for high -speed military landing.

Purvanchal Expressway (Uttar Pradesh): This Aerousstrip was inaugurated in 2021. It is on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district, which is 3.2 km in length. During its inauguration, Indian Air Force jets, including Mirage-20,000 and AN-32 transport aircraft, performed take-off and landing in live demo. This expressway is designed keeping in mind the military utility and shows India’s move towards the dual -use infrastructure.

Yamuna Expressway (Uttar Pradesh): The Indian Air Force trial landing was held for the first time in 2015 on the Yamuna Expressway connecting Greater Noida to Agra, when Mirage-20,000 fighter aircraft were successfully landed near Jewar. Although it was not permanently nominated as an emergency bandage, it was one of the first highways tested for military readiness. This demonstrated India’s ability to use civil infrastructure for strategic operations in emergency situations.

National Highway 925A (Rajasthan): It was the first national highway to officially nominated and developed as an emergency landing facility for IAF. Located near Gandhav Bhakasar in Barmer district, the 3.5 km long route was inaugurated in September 2021. This airstrip was used by Rafael, Jaguar and Sukhoi SU-30 MKI aircraft. The project proved an important milestone in integrating defense preparations in the national highway planning.

National Highway 16 (near Odisha, Balasore): An emergency landing airstrip has been developed on NH-16 in Balasore district of Odisha. Although not widely publicized, the airstrip is built on a strategic section that is used by IAF for emergency practice and defense practice. The region is important due to being close to defense installations such as Chandipur and Wheeler Islands.
