United Nations, October 4 (IANS). Legal Officer at the United Nations Mission of India R. Maithili said on Thursday that Pakistan, which glorifies Osama Bin Laden, the face of international terrorism, cannot claim that it is a victim of terrorism. He may have to bear the risk of facing the consequences of his actions.

Responding to Pakistan’s attack on India during a session on measures to end international terrorism in the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly, he said, “We should not forget the fact that Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism, was found in this country. Was gone.”

This committee deals with legal matters.

He said, “The leadership of this country glorified him as a martyr in Parliament. It is ironic that this country claims that he is a victim of terrorism. This is the country which nurtures terrorists in the hope that He will only harm his neighbors.”

Earlier, while giving a statement on behalf of India before the committee, Maithili, without naming Pakistan, said that the mastermind of the 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai “roamed freely with full state hospitality.”

The statement was a dig at Islamabad for granting shelter to Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, the Lashkar-e-Taiba leader behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

“To divert the attention of the international community from their nefarious agenda, such countries try to portray themselves as victims of terrorism,” Maithili said.

“UN-proscribed terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and their affiliates and proxies are carrying out terrorist attacks on Indian soil,” he said.

In her reply to Pakistan, Maithili said, “Their pretense of condemning terrorism as part of their vicious agenda can never succeed.”

“These actions will definitely have consequences,” he warned.

He described the Pakistan-sponsored attacks as bizarre, frivolous and politically motivated.

He said Pakistan’s anti-India comments “deserve only contempt.”

As far as Islamabad’s claims on Kashmir are concerned, he dismissed them as wishful thinking.

“The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were, are and will always be integral and inseparable parts of India, irrespective of what representative Pakistan believes,” he said.

Maithili said, “It is unfortunate that some of us, driven by our narrow political agenda, look for reasons to justify terrorism.”

Although he did not name Pakistan among those supporting terrorism, the target was clear.

He said, “Because of these countries, the global resolve to fight against terrorism is weakening. It is because of such countries that even after 15 years of the Mumbai terror attacks, masterminds are roaming freely with full government hospitality.”

“Such states not only justify terrorism, but their governments and their agencies have made terrorism their national policy,” he said.
