PM’s mantra to police officers, turn challenge into opportunity by using dual AI power
New Delhi, 01 December (Hindustan Reporter). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over digital fraud, cyber crime and the potential threats posed by AI technology, especially the potential of deep fakes to negatively impact social and family relationships. As a countermeasure, he called upon the police leadership to turn the challenge into an opportunity by harnessing the dual AI power of India’s Artificial Intelligence and ‘Aspirational India’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 59th All India Conference of Directors General/Inspectors General of Police in Bhubaneswar on 30 November and 01 December. In the concluding session, the Prime Minister distributed President’s Police Medals for distinguished service to Intelligence Bureau officers.
In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister said that the national and international dimensions of security challenges were widely discussed during the conference and expressed satisfaction at the response strategies that emerged from the discussions.
He expanded on the mantra of smart policing and called upon the police to be strategic, alert, adaptable, credible and transparent. Appreciating the initiatives taken in urban policing, he suggested that each initiative should be consolidated and implemented in 100 cities of the country. He called for the use of technology to reduce the workload of constables and suggested that the police station should be made the focal point for resource allocation.
Discussing the success of the hackathon in solving some major problems, the Prime Minister also suggested to discuss organizing a National Police Hackathon. The Prime Minister also highlighted the need to focus on port security and prepare a future action plan for it.
Recalling the unique contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Prime Minister called upon all security establishments from the Home Ministry to the police station level to pay tribute to his 150th birth anniversary next year. He also called for setting targets on any aspect that improves the image, professionalism and capabilities of the police and resolve to achieve them. He urged the police to become modern and realign themselves with the vision of ‘Developed India’.
During the conference, there was in-depth discussion on existing and emerging challenges to national security, including terrorism, left-wing extremism, cyber crime, economic security, immigration, coastal security and drug trafficking. Emerging security concerns along the border with Bangladesh and Myanmar, trends in urban policing and strategies to counter malicious statements were also discussed.
The Union Home Minister, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, National Security Advisor, Minister of State for Home and Union Home Secretary also attended this conference. DGSPs/IGSPs and Heads of CAPFs/CPOs from all States/UTs also participated physically in the conference organized in hybrid format and more than 750 officers of various ranks from all States/UTs participated virtually.
