President Assad spoke to the Iranian Foreign Minister
Damascus, December 2 (IANS). Syrian President Bashar al-Assad meets with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. During this, he pledged to fight terrorist organizations ‘with full strength and determination’.
Assad stressed that Syria’s fight against rebels is essential not only for national interests but also for regional stability.
“Confronting terrorism, dismantling its structure and eliminating its sources is beneficial for the entire region,” Assad told Araghchi, Xinhua news agency quoted state news agency SANA as saying.
The Syrian President considered support from allies as vital in countering foreign-backed terrorist attacks.
Araghchi delivered a message of support on behalf of the Iranian leadership. It expressed Iran’s commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity and its readiness to provide comprehensive support to the ongoing conflict.
Araghchi’s visit comes amid rising tensions. Syrian military forces are engaged in significant combat operations against rebel groups.
Also on Sunday, the Syrian government called an extraordinary session on the situation in Aleppo. It acknowledged the current challenges facing state institutions.
The government said in a statement, “…the conditions were harsh and difficult. The preparedness of foreign countries and global intelligence agencies, as well as the unlimited funding and support (to the rebel groups), made it difficult to deal with the situation initially.”
The government has promised to closely monitor developments in Aleppo. Apart from this, each minister has been given the responsibility of overseeing the state institutions in his jurisdiction. So that important decisions can be taken quickly.
