Prisoner Glynn Simmons Acquitted After 48 Years In Prison For Murder In US Oklahoma

According to the National Registry of Exonerations, Glenn Simmons has become the person serving the longest prison sentence without committing any crime.
70 year old Glenn Simmons was accused of murder. He was sentenced to death in 1975 on charges of murder and robbery. However, later the American court changed his sentence to life imprisonment. Glenn Simmons was 22 years old at that time. Glenn was accused of robbing a liquor store in 1975 and then murdering a person named Caroline Sue Rogers. The court had pronounced the sentence on the basis of the statement of an alleged eyewitness.
Glenn is battling liver cancer
According to online fund raising organization Go Fund Me, Glenn has liver cancer. The organization has raised thousands of dollars for his treatment. There is a provision in Oklahoma to give compensation to people who have been sentenced without committing any crime. In return for this, the person is given an amount of 1 lakh 75 thousand dollars.

While acquitting Glenn of the crime, the Oklahoma court said, through numerous evidence, it has become clear that Glenn was convicted and had to face punishment for crimes he did not commit. Glenn Simmons, who was acquitted of the charges, told the news agency Associated Press regarding the decision, this is the result of our continuous efforts and determination for justice.
