Hadapsar, 30th November 2024: A thief stole gold ornaments worth Rs 80,000 from an elderly woman by posing as a government official distributing benefits under the Ladki Bahin Yojana. The incident took place three days ago when the elderly woman, who resides in Hadapsar, was approached by the thief around 11 am.

According to the woman’s complaint, the thief stopped her while she was on her way out of the area. The thief, pretending to be a government official, told her that money was being distributed under the Ladki Bahin Yojana, where Rs 5,000 was being given to women. To gain her trust, the thief engaged her in conversation and asked her to remove her mangalsutra and ring as part of the process. Taking advantage of the woman’s distraction, the thief swiftly stole the gold ornaments and fled.

The elderly woman later filed a complaint with the Hadapsar Police Station.

This incident is part of a growing trend of scams targeting women in the city, with criminals luring victims with false promises of free money, sarees, and other benefits. Recently, a similar case was reported in the Swargate area, where thieves stole Rs 40,000 worth of gold ornaments from a woman under similar pretences.

The police have urged the public, especially women, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
