MUMBAI: Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia’s upcoming film, Agni, is a tribute to the often-overlooked heroism of firefighters, who risk their lives to save others. The director, known for his previous works, says that the idea for the film came to him during a visit to the 9/11 memorial in the United States, where he was struck by the heroic efforts of firefighters depicted in photographs.
“There is no film made about them (in India). When I was in America, I went to the 9/11 memorial and there I saw photographs of firefighters. These guys do heroic things and we don’t talk about or share much. This is a story waiting to be told,” Dholakia told PTI in a recent interview.
He further emphasized that Agni is a story that had long been in the making and he hopes it will inspire audiences to develop a greater respect for firefighters, who are often the first to respond in life-threatening situations.
The filmmaker expressed his hope that the film would bring attention to the sacrifices made by these unsung heroes and shed light on their dedication and courage. The movie is set to highlight their struggles, bravery, and the toll their work takes on their personal lives.
