Senior citizens get lower berths
Many rules have been made by the Railways to provide relief to senior citizens. This makes their journey easier. Lower berths can be booked for senior citizens. IRCTC informed about easy allotment of lower berth to senior citizens. A passenger had said in a tweet that he had booked a train ticket for his uncle and had given priority to the lower berth because he had a problem in his legs, but even then the Railways gave him an upper berth.
Railways told how to book lower berth for senior citizens
Responding to the passenger’s tweet, Railways has written that if you book a ticket under general quota, you get seat allotment only if there is a seat. If there is no seat, you will not get it. If you book under Reservation Choice Book only if lower berth is allotted then you will get lower berth.
Lower berths are available on first come, first served basis.
Railways said that seats are allotted to those booking under general quota only when there are seats. These seats are available on first come and first serve basis. There is no human interference in getting a seat in the general quota. However, you can approach TTE for lower berth and negotiate for lower berth for yourself. If lower berth is available then you will get it.
