Rajya Sabha proceedings adjourned till Thursday due to uproar

New Delhi, November 27 (IANS). Shortly after the commencement of the House proceedings in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, opposition MPs demanded discussion on issues like Manipur and Sambhal violence under Rule 267. The Chairman rejected this demand. Due to this, many opposition MPs started creating ruckus in the House and the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned shortly after the commencement. The uproar did not stop even when Parliament proceedings resumed and the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the whole day.

In fact, on Wednesday, an MP from the Aam Aadmi Party gave a notice in the Rajya Sabha telling the Chairman that he wanted a discussion on the law and order situation of Delhi and the increasing crimes in the national capital. Whereas opposition MPs like Sushmita Dev, Raghav Chadha, Tiruchi Shiva, Santosh Kumar P demanded discussion on Manipur violence. Dr John Bittas, A A Rahim, Professor Ram Gopal Yadav and Abdul Wahab demanded a discussion on the violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh and the situation arising thereafter.

These opposition MPs wanted that these topics should be discussed by postponing other work of the House. Opposition MPs were demanding discussion under Rule 267. However, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected this demand of the MPs. After this, the opposition MPs started creating ruckus in the House and due to this the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned till 11.30 am.

When the House proceedings resumed, many opposition MPs, including Congress’s Pramod Tiwari, stood at their places demanding discussion. After this, most of the opposition MPs started raising their voice on this issue. The Chairman requested the MPs to go and sit at their places. But this opposition from opposition MPs continued to increase. In view of this, the Chairman adjourned the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha till Thursday.

Earlier, when the winter session of Parliament started on Monday, opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha were seen demanding discussion on the issues of Manipur violence and Sambhal violence. Several opposition MPs had also given notice to the Rajya Sabha Chairman on Wednesday to discuss the issue of violence in Manipur and Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh. The Chairman rejected this demand of the MPs. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he has already given his decision on the discussion under Rule 267, he is repeating the same decision again.
