Rohit Sharma Cried During Handshakes After Loss In World Cup Final
India captain Rohit Sharma was seen shedding some tears and getting emotional while shaking hands with players after the loss in the World Cup 2023 final against Australia.
As the Aussie captain Pat Cummins had said on the eve of the final, he and his team silenced the 130,000 Indian fans at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad and the billions in the country with the sheer quality and class of their performance. Australia simply outclassed India in all three departments.
India captain Rohit Sharma once again gave his side a thunderous start, but couldn’t carry on. From his dismissal, India couldn’t really get any momentum during the Virat Kohli-KL Rahul partnership. India dragged themselves to 240, and had a slimmer of hope when they had Australia at 47/3. But a sensational century from Travis Head and a calm half-century from Marnus Labuschagne took it away from India.
Mohammed Siraj was in tears, and so was Rohit Sharma on the field. But Rohit Sharma kept more of his composure and did his duties of congratulating the Australian players for their win. At the age of 36, this was Rohit’s last attempt at the ODI World Cup trophy.

Earlier Pat Cummins had won the toss and elected to bowl first, and his bowlers vindicated his decision. Pat Cummins himself led from the front with sensational figures of 2/34 with wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreya Iyer.
India got off to a brisk start from Rohit Sharma, who scored 47 runs in 31 balls. After that India slipped to 81/3, before Virat Kohli and KL Rahul rebuilt the innings. However, they were slow in their approach in their partnership of 67 (109). Once Kohli was gone for 54, India kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The loss of Rahul for 66 runs was a big dent to India’s innings which then trudged to 240.
Head smashed 137 runs in 120 balls with 15 fours and 4 sixes in their chase of the target of 241 runs. Marnus Labuschagne played his role as a second-fiddle with his 58* runs in 110 balls. The pair made a match-winning partnership of 192 (215) after Australia were 47/3.
