Bareilly: In a unique case of bribery in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a Minority Welfare Department employee allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from a madrasa official to advance a file regarding the relocation of a madrasa from Rajpura to Vasundhara village.
Sources said that the official halted the file for six months, which prompted the victim to agree to the bribe. However, the victim could not pay the full amount at once. In response, Senior Assistant Waqf, Mohammad Asif, suggested a flexible payment plan in instalments.

After launching a probe, the vigilance team did a sting operation at the Minority Welfare Office in Bareilly’s Vikas Bhawan. The team arrested Asif as he accepted the first payment from Aarish. A case has been filed and the accused has been sent to jail.
Bribe in instalments
In Gujarat, government officials demand bribes in installment plans to ‘ease financial strain’ on vulnerable citizens. A recent SGST scam saw a Rs 21 lakh bribe split into nine EMIs, while a deputy sarpanch in Surat allowed a villager to pay Rs 85,000 in parts for land levelling. In another case, cops fled with a Rs 4 lakh down payment from a demanded Rs 10 lakh bribe. According to Gujarat’s ACB, officials apply the installment strategy to keep bribes flowing and exploiting those desperate for help in difficult financial situations.
