Sita marriage festival started in Janakpurdham, festival will continue throughout the week
Kathmandu, 01 December (HS). The week-long celebration of Sita Vivah Panchami has formally started from Sunday in Janakpurdham. Vivah Panchami Mahotsav is celebrated for a week every year to commemorate the marriage of Lord Rama and Sita during Treta Yuga.
Today is the city darshan program on the first day of Sitaram Vivah Panchami Mahotsav. On the second day tomorrow there will be Phulbari Leela on Monday, on the third day there will be Dhanush Yagya on Tuesday, on the fourth day there will be Teelokatsav on Wednesday, on the fifth day there will be Matkor on 5th December and on 6th December there will be Ramsita Swayamvar and marriage programme. On the last day of the festival, on December 7, the Vivah Panchami festival will be formally concluded after bidding farewell to the sage and saint who came from Ayodhya in the form of a procession by performing Ramkaleva. Mahant Ramroshan Das Vaishnav, successor of Janaki Temple, said that during the Nagar Darshan, two children will be taken around the Janaki Temple premises as symbols of Lord Ram and Lakshman.
There is a tradition of celebrating Vivah Panchami Mahotsav every year in Janakpurdham to commemorate the marriage of Lord Shri Ram and Jankanandini Sita in Treta Yuga. In this festival, more than 10 lakh devotees from Nepal and India reach Janakpurdham. This year, 500 sadhus and saints are going to come to Janakpurdham in a procession from Ayodhya under the leadership of Champat Rai, General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
