Skoda Electric Car Launch Update: Skoda will launch electric car in India, know their major plans
Skoda Electric Car Launch Update : Amid the growing trend of electric vehicles (EV) in India, Skoda Auto has announced plans to introduce its own EV model in the Indian market by 2025. Petr Janeba, Skoda Auto’s brand director, confirmed the timeline, highlighting the brand’s commitment to expanding its EV presence. Originally, Skoda’s Enyaq EV was supposed to arrive in India this year, but the launch was delayed to accommodate a major facelift featuring Skoda’s latest design language, which is scheduled to be unveiled in March 2025.

“We have one of the best-selling EVs in Europe, the Enyaq,” Janeba said. “The car was ready for India, but we put it on hold because a significant facelift is coming which aligns with our new design standards.” He also hinted at Skoda’s flexibility in choosing between multiple EV models for India or potentially launching all three options in the future.
Skoda’s local production and investment plans
Janeba emphasized Skoda’s commitment to local production in India. The brand is set to invest further in its Pune facility, which currently manufactures vehicles with a capacity of 250,000 units per year, to support EV production as demand increases. The plant, located in Chakan, Pune, will also see additional investment aimed at deeper localisation, which will keep EV prices competitive for Indian consumers.
Skoda’s focus is on coherent policies and market strategy
As India prepares for new EV and hybrid regulatory policies, including the CAFE3 norms set for 2027, Skoda is keeping a close eye on the policy developments. Janeba stressed the importance of stable policies across states, as existing tax variations could challenge long-term planning.
“To be successful in India, localized CKD (Completely Knocked Down) EV production is important,” he said, adding that Skoda is ready for this change based on market demand and competitive landscape.
Skoda India CEO Piyush Arora expressed optimism about capturing the growing sub-four-metre SUV market, which accounts for about 30% of India’s automotive segment. With upcoming models like the redesigned Kodiaq, Skoda aims to achieve 5% market share in the medium term.
Arora also highlighted the importance of Skoda’s technical center in India, which has played a key role in designing vehicles like the Kodiaq specifically for the Indian market. “Our engineering team in India is critical to our long-term strategy, as they develop products suited to local demands,” he said, underscoring Skoda’s focus on local talent and partnerships with dealers and suppliers.
