Strong planning by DoT, fake calls will be detected in a jiffy, new system coming soon
DoT i.e. Department of Telecommunications is soon going to bring a new system to curb cyber fraud. This central system will be effective in blocking calls made by changing the voice. In recent times, many such cyber fraud cases have come to light, in which people are tricked by changing their voice and then they are defrauded.
Recently, a case of a painful accident has come to light in Agra due to similar fake calls made by changing the voice. Taking cognizance of this incident, the Department of Telecommunications has announced to soon introduce an advanced system to curb fake calls made by changing the voice.
Preparation to bring advanced system
According to the Department of Telecommunications, such calls are made by cyber criminals operating from foreign countries. These cyber criminals take advantage of Calling Line Identity (CLI) to hide the true origin of their calls, leading to disconnection of mobile numbers, fake digital arrest threats and even impersonation of government officials or law informant agencies. There has been a flood of incoming fake calls.
These criminals threaten people by changing their voices and making false allegations related to drugs, narcotics and sex rackets and then commit fraud with them. In view of these increasing threats, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has prepared an advanced system in collaboration with telecom companies Airtel, Vodafone idea, Jio and BSNL, which can identify and block international fake calls even before they reach the users. Will be able to block.
Will be implemented in two phases
According to the Department of Telecommunications, this advanced system will be implemented in two phases. This system will be implemented in the first phase at the level of Telecom Service Providers (TSP) to stop fake calls from users’ phone numbers and in the second phase at the central level to stop fake calls from TSPs to users’ numbers. So far, all four telecom service providers have successfully implemented the first phase of this advanced system.
Due to the implementation of this system, daily 4.5 million i.e. 45 lakh fake calls are being prevented from coming into the Indian telecom network. The next phase will include a central system which will be able to curb spoofed calls in TSPs.
The Department of Telecommunications says that till now one-third of fake calls are being stopped on daily basis. However, until this system is fully implemented, users can report such fake calls and messages on the Chakshu portal of the Government of India.
