Till 2022, the population of Stuttgart was 632,865 and it was the sixth largest city in the county. More than 2.8 million people live in the administrative region of the city and almost 5.5 million people reside in the metropolitan area. It makes Stuttgart the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the country. The city and metropolitan area are ranked consistently among the top four European metropolitan areas by GDP.

History of Stuttgart
The region of Stuttgart was conquered by the Roman Empire in AD 83 and it became an important place for several centuries. However, it was in the 10th century that its roots were truly laid when Liudolf, Duke of Swabia made it a stud farm for his warhorses. The town prospered and got a charter in 1320. Stuttgart’s fortunes changed with those of the House of Württemberg who from the 15th century to 1918 made it the capital of their county. During World War II, the city suffered setbacks but it bounced back by 1952.
Today, Stuttgart is a major economic, cultural, tourism, industrial, and publishing centre in Germany. It is famous for its advanced high-tech industry especially when it comes to the automotive sector. Several major corporations have their headquarters in Stuttgart, including Bosch, Mercedes-Benz Group and Porsche. The Stuttgart Stock Exchange is Germany’s second largest after Frankfurt and has one of the busiest airports in Europe.
