In 2011, it opened a new pavilion in a modern -making project and increased the capacity of the audience by about 25000. This work was done before the Commonwealth Games here. Together, the new Edgbaston Plaza was built at the stadium gate itself.

First Test: Played in 1902 and Australia was followed for 36 runs in the first innings (7 wickets for 17 runs). The test was drawn due to rain.

Largest personal score in first class cricket: Brian Lara scored 501* for Warvikashire against Durham in 1994.

First Women’s World Cup Final: In 1973, hosts England won the cup by defeating Australia in this final.

England’s first cricket stadium where flood lights were installed: they were installed in 1997 to play a day-night match.

Record partnership of 411 runs between Peter Me and Colin Cowdre: England’s biggest partnership records against the West Indies in 1957.

Kovid-19 Vacation Center: In 2021, the Cricket Stadium was converted into this center so that the locals would put vaccine vaccines.

Entry in the Commonwealth Games of Mahila Cricket T20: Women’s T20 event was held in the Games here in 2022 and Australia won gold.

Banquating Suite: It is on the second floor and one of the few stadiums in England where the wedding and other functions are also held in the stadium.

First Day/Night Test match in England: He played here between England and West Indies in 2017.

England’s 1000th Test: Edgbaston hosted this record test match in 2018.

England did not lose any Test here from May 1902 to June 1975.

Stadium connection with India

India’s record in Edgbaston is worth forgetting. Out of the 8 Tests played here, 7 were defeated (1967, 1974, 1979, 1996, 2011, 2018 and 2022). Draw just one test- of 1986. It is one of the two stadiums in England where India has played 8 or more Tests without winning.

India’s team last played here in 2022 and then the hosts chased the target of 378 runs in the last morning of the fifth Test and set a new record with victory. Joe Root and Johnny Bairstow made 100 and England scored the 9th biggest score to win.

* In 2018, captain Virat Kohli scored the top score for India of 149 in the first innings and a brilliant 51 runs in the second innings but India could not achieve the score to win which was not particularly big.

* It was England’s 1000th Test match.

* Alastair Cook scored 294 against India in 2011 and England set a record of 710-7 runs in their biggest score here in the same innings.

*In 2013, India won the ICC Champions Trophy title with a thrilling 5 -run win over England at this stadium.

* Indian cricketers playing for Warvikshire County Cricket Club: This list includes Abdul Hafeez Kardar, Mohammad Siraj (2022), Jayant Yadav (2022) and Hanuma Vihari (2021) played at the end of 1940 years. Many other players of Indian origin like Ravi Bopara have played for the club.
