Path of Exile 2 developer Grinding Gear Games has announced that it won’t be ready for an open beta on the planned date of June 7, and will instead release the beta later in 2024. The studio said the reason for the delay was to give the developers more time to polish the game to a standard it’s happy with.

In a statement posted to Twitter, Grinding Gear says while it was possible to have the game content ready for the original beta date of June 7, the studio “underestimated how long it will take to get gameplay polished to a standard we’re happy with.”

The statement says the studio will instead undertake alpha testing in June, and will leave the beta until later in the year. Grinding Gears hasn’t put a new date on when it expects to run the beta, instead advising it will be towards the end of the year. Despite the beta delay, the studio has started to showcase Path of Exile 2’s classes, starting with the classic Ranger.

Path of Exile 2, the much anticipated follow-up to 2013’s free-to-play online RPG, was announced back in 2019, and has been in development while Grinding Gear continues to release new content and expansions for the original game. While Path of Exile 2 was originally intended to replace the first game, Grinding Gears announced that it will release the sequel as a standalone title, allowing both games to co-exist.
