Let us tell you that this unique and mysterious temple of Lord Shiva is located in Manikaran, about 45 kilometers from Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. It is considered a historical religious place of both Hindu and Sikh religions. Parvati river flows through Manikaran on one side of which is the Shiva temple and on the other side is the historical Gurudwara of Guru Nanak Dev which is known as Manikaran Sabit.
Mythological story related to Shiva temple-
A story related to this temple of Lord Shiva is very popular. Although Lord Shiva is called Bholenath, but when he gets angry then no one is saved from his wrath. According to the story, once while playing in the river, the pearl of Goddess Parvati’s earring had fallen into the water. Which had reached Hades while flowing. After which Lord Shiva sent his followers to search for the gem, but even after searching a lot they could not find the gem. Due to which Lord Shiva became angry and assumed his monstrous form and opened his third eye. Due to the anger of Mahadev, the water of the river started boiling, which is still the case today.
Seeing this monstrous form of Lord Shiva, Naina Devi appeared and went to the underworld and asked Sheshnag to return this gem to Lord Shiva. After which Sheshnag returned the gem of Mother Parvati to Mahadev. Sheshnag hissed loudly from the underworld and many gems also came to earth at various places. After getting the gems of Mother Parvati, Lord Shiva turned all those gems into stones and threw them back in the river.
