Let us tell you that Sharmistha Mukherjee has written a book on her father and former President of India Pranab Mukherjee. The name of this book is 'Pranab, My Father: A Daughter Remembers'. This book was released on Monday (December 11). On the occasion of book launching, Sharmistha Mukherjee gave her candid reaction on this book. He recalled many incidents related to the life of Pranab Mukherjee.
While talking to journalists, Sharmistha Mukherjee said that both of them know what former Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi thought about my father, but as far as my father was concerned. He had written in his notes that Rajiv Gandhi thought that Pranab Mukherjee was a tough and adamant person, who could not accept anything blindly. Perhaps that is why Rajiv Gandhi removed my father from the cabinet. Along with this, Pranab Mukherjee was angry with Rahul Gandhi tearing the ordinance. Sharmistha Mukherjee also mentioned the copy of the ordinance torn by Rahul Gandhi in the year 2013. In a press conference held on 27 September 2013, Rahul Gandhi described a proposed government ordinance as 'complete nonsense' and said it should be torn down.
Later he tore the copy of the ordinance. Pranab Mukherjee was very angry with this incident. Sharmistha said her father was also opposed to the proposed ordinance, but felt it should be discussed in Parliament. Sharmistha said her father used to say that his tenure with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was the highlight of his political career. It was the 'Golden Age'. Talking about his relationship with Indira Gandhi, he said, “My father used to say that the era of Indira Gandhi was the golden period of his political life. Indiraji used to keep an eye on Baba. If there was one person to whom my father had loyalty, it was Indira Gandhi and no one else. Mukherjee held key portfolios during the Congress rule. He was in charge of defence, foreign affairs and finance. When Sharmistha was asked whether Mukherjee was the first choice for the post of President. He said, “I don't know whether he was the first choice, second choice or third choice. But from Baba's diary I came to know that Mrs. Gandhi was looking for the possibility of making Mr. Hamid Ansari the President and the possibility of winning.”
