AR Rahman tied the knot with Saira Banu when she was just 21 years old. Together, the duo has three children: Khatija, Raheema and Ameen. As the celebrity couple parts ways, let’s have a look at his mother’s role in finding his better half.

New Delhi: After 29 years of marriage, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu have announced their separation. Their decision to part ways was made available to the public by their divorce lawyer Vandana Shah on behalf of the couple on Tuesday (November 19, 2024).

In a statement, the duo was quoted as saying that they took the decision to separate after ‘significant emotional strain in their relationship’. The 57-year-old musician confirmed the news through an X (formerly known as Twitter) post, saying that all things carry an unseen end.

AR Rahman’s 3 conditions for marriage

As AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s relationship reaches a heartbreaking conclusion, let us tell you how the former found the latter almost three decades back. It is to be noted that AR Rahman’s real name is Dileep Kumar Rajagopala, hailing from Tamil Nadu.

According to a tv9hindi.com report, he, along with his family, accepted Islam when he was just 22 years old and changed his name to Allah Rakha Rahman. When AR Rahman’s mother Kareema decided to get her son married, he put three conditions in front of her. His first condition was that his future wife should be educated. For the unversed, due to his struggles, AR Rahman did not get a chance to study much and, as a result, he wanted his wife to be educated.

AR Rahman’s second condition was that his wife should love music, for obvious reasons. And the third condition mentioned that his significant other must display decent behaviour. Well, it was not easy for Kareema to find a girl who possessed all three qualities. But, eventually, she was able to select the one and the rest, as they say, is history.
