Top 10 hatchbacks on sale in October 2024
Maruti Suzuki Swift has emerged as the best-selling hatchback in October 2024 with sales of 17,539 units
In the month of October 2024, Maruti Suzuki’s Swift, which entered the new generation in just a few months. Earlier, hatchback sales in India were recorded at 17,539 units – an increase of 15 percent compared to 20,598 units sold in October 2023. The WagonR Tallboy hatch claimed the third position with 13,922 units, just behind the Baleno.
WagonR suffered a significant decline of 37 percent year-on-year, with sales falling from 22,080 units in October 2023 to 13,922 units in October 2024. Maruti Suzuki Baleno, on the other hand, took the second position with sales of 16,082 units – a marginal decline of 3 percent from 16,594 units during the same period last year.
Maruti Suzuki Alto took the fourth position, achieving sales of 8,548 units – a healthy growth of 24 percent compared to 11,200 units in October 2023. Meanwhile, Tata Tiago took the seventh position with sales of 4,862 units, marking a significant decline of 13 percent. There were 5,356 units in the same period last year.

Hyundai i20 ranked sixth in hatchback sales with sales of 5,354 units, down 26 percent from 7,212 units in October 2023. The premium hatchback could not perform better than its younger brother Grand i10 Nios in the rankings. However, it outperformed its rivals like Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz.
Tata Altroz saw a sharp decline of 56 per cent year-on-year, with sales falling to 2,642 units in October 2024 from 5,984 units in the same month last year, leaving it at the tenth position in the ranking. In contrast, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios took the fifth position with sales of 6,235 units, marking a marginal decline of 5 percent as compared to 6,552 units in October 2023.
Toyota Glanza recorded sales of 4,273 units in October 2024, a decline of 10 percent compared to 4,724 units sold last year. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki Celerio stood ninth with sales of 3,044 units, showing a significant decline of 29 percent from 4,317 units during the same period twelve months ago.
