New Delhi, 27 November (HS). Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi will launch the national campaign ‘Child Marriage Free India’ today at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. During this period ‘Child Marriage Free India’ portal will also be unveiled. This information was given in the release of the Press and Information Bureau (PIB) of the Government of India on the eve of the program.

A collective oath will be taken against child marriage. According to the PIB release, this online platform will support the mission of the campaign to raise awareness against child marriage prevention and effective reporting of child marriage incidents. Annapurna Devi will also lead a mass pledge against child marriage. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur will also be present on this occasion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of a ‘child marriage free’ country should be ours. This national campaign is inspired by the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship scheme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ launched on January 22, 2015. This campaign focuses on making the country child marriage free. This campaign will prove to be essential in promoting education, skills, enterprise and entrepreneurship among girls and women to realize the vision of a developed India.

This is necessary for a developed India. According to the release, the country has been successful in reducing child mortality, birth sex ratio and promoting enrollment of girls at all levels in the last few years. However, the evil of child marriage is still prevalent. This is the worst form of human rights violation. Despite concerted efforts, even today almost one in five girls is married before the legal age of 18 years. Child Marriage Free India campaign is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s future vision of ‘Developed India’ by the year 2047.

Samatapurna Samaj’s Sankalp Child Marriage Free Campaign is a testament to the government’s efforts to empower young girls across the country. It will fully realize the potential of every child by ensuring a progressive and equitable society. The message of this campaign is expected to reach 25 crore citizens. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur will also be present on this occasion. Child Marriage Prohibition Officers from various districts of the country, civil society organizations, government officials of all central ministries, officials of states and union territories, respected citizens through physical and virtual medium will also be present in the programme.
