How is vermilion formed?

1. traditional natural way
2. Synthetic method
Traditionally vermilion is prepared from seeds obtained from the fruit of a particular tree, which is called “vermilion tree” or “kamila tree”.
Kamila fruit and vermilion tree
Kamila Fruit is called Raktrohini in Sanskrit, vermilion in Hindi and Flame of the Forest or Butea Monosperma in English. This tree is mostly found in India, Nepal and other parts of South Asia. Its flowers are bright red or orange, which bloom in spring and color the villages before Holi. The powder that is obtained from the seeds of this tree is of dark orange-red color and this is the source of natural vermilion. Traditional vermilion is prepared by drying and grinding it. At present, most of the vermilion found in the market is made from chemical elements, which contain harmful elements such as mercury, lead. It can be harmful to skin, eyes and reproductive health. Therefore, sindoor made from natural sources like Kamila fruits is a better option for health.
During the war, while proclaiming war by the kings, vermilion was placed on the foreheads of the soldiers, which showed the resolve of victory. Today, when the military action like ‘Operation Sindoor’ is given by India after the barbaric terror attack of Pahalgam, it shows that the soldiers of the country, India’s army, will always stand in defense of the demand of the country.
