However, that is not the case. Some villages in India will disagree with Shakespeare, due to their weird names. In this article, you will find out more about them.

Indian villages with weird names

Poo

In English, ‘Poo’ means excrement. This is a town in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district. The place is known for its vineyards and apricot orchards and is a favourite among the hikers.

Daru

Daru means alcohol. Daru is the name of a village in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district. However, it is not a paradise of alcohol, though the name can be extremely misleading.

Gadha

Normally, ‘Gadha’ means donkey. Now imagine a place named ‘Gadha’. Yes, it exists. It is a village in Gujarat.

Kutta

This one means dog. It is located Karnataka-Kerala border and is known for wildlife. It is a small border town in the Coorg district with homestays and restaurants. Want to visit? You have to be very careful while asking for directions.

Panauti

This is a name nobody wants to have. Why? ‘Panauti’ in Hindi means unlucky. And unluckily, there is a place in Uttar Pradesh with this name.

Suar

The word ‘Suar’ means pig and the word is generally used as slang. However, there is a city in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district with this name.

Lulla Nagar

Please don’t burst out in laughter. This is a place in Maharashtra’s Pune.

Bhosari

While the name may seem funny, this place in Maharashtra is also famous for its several manufacturing companies. It is also known for kabaddi and wrestling.

Tatti Khana

It can mean a place of ‘poo’. It is situated in Telangana’s Hayathnagar Tehsil of Rangareddy district and only a handful of families live there. However, after PM Narendra Modi announced his sanitation scheme, this place has become popular.

Chutia

We are not going to spell out the meaning of this word. All we can say is this is the name of a place in Assam. Also, there’s another place called Chutia near Ranchi in Jharkhand.

Well, this one means black goat. This is a village in Punjab’s Jalandhar District.

Lolpur

Normally, we say ‘lol’ to mean laugh out loud. Well, Lolpur is the name of a village in Uttar Pradesh.

Achanakmar

No, we are not kidding. This is a wildlife sanctuary in the Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh.
