It has been said in many reports that this city was named after Bhagyamati, who is said to be the mistress of a Sultan. But, the love story of Bhagyamati and Muhammad Quli is also said to be a fantasy. Apart from this, the name Bhagyanagar has been found in many history documents.
Apart from this, there is also an argument that Hyderabad was named after Farkhunda, which in Persian means Lucky City i.e. Bhagyanagar. For this reason also there is talk of changing the name of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.
