A tragic incident took place in the USA where an Indian girl named, Jaahnavi Kandula was driven dead by a Police officer, Kevin Dave, and according to recent reports, it was stated that the cop who killed Jaahnavi will not face any criminal charges.
FOX13 Seattle reported that the King County Prosecutor’s Office has announced their decision not to pursue criminal charges against Seattle Police Officer Kevin Dave. King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion stated that she believes there is insufficient evidence to establish a criminal case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The heartbreaking incident took place back in January 2023 when an Indian student was killed by a cop in the USA. In the accident, an Indian student, Jaahnavi lost her life and now after one year of the investigation, it was reported by the King County Prosecutor officer that the accused officer, Kevin Dave will not be facing any charges due to lack of evidence.
What happened with Jaahnavi Kandula?
On 23 January 2023, an Indian student, Jaahnavi Kandula residing in the Seattle, USA was crossing the path of a street when she was struck by a police vehicle driven by the Police officer, Kevin Dave. The 23-year-old, Jaahnavi was crossing the path when the accused Dave came driving the Police patrol vehicle at a speed of around 120 km/pH.
The Police officer, Dave hit the girl, Kandula with the police vehicle and was said to be on a drug overdose while driving. Soon after, Jaahnavi was hit she was thrown 100 feet high. Also, the Seattle Police Department officer, Daniel Auderer, who was not involved in the accident was heard saying in the body-cam video, ‘But she is dead’ and laughing on the phone and continued saying that she was 26 anyway, she had limited value.
The Indian student, Jaahnavi Kandula was 23 years old and belonged to Hyderabad. It was also reported that Jaahnavi was a graduate student at Northeastern University on the Seattle campus and in January 2023, she was going to be awarded her degree. After the accident, Jaahnavi was taken to the Harborview Medical Center where she was declared dead.
Who is Kevin Dave?
Kevin Dave is a Police Officer employed in the Seattle Police Department since 2020 and was on a professional high-priority call at the time of the accident. As per the reports, the Police officer, Dave performed CPR on the girl. Also, Dave said that lights were on and he was chirping the sirens and she was in the crosswalk as she saw him she started running through the crosswalk.
Dave further stated that he slammed on his breaks and started staying back where she should have before crossing. However, after further investigation, King’s Prosecuting Attorney, LeesaManion stated that there is a lack of evidence to prove a criminal case against Kevin Dave. She further said that after investigating the case with senior officials she has determined that they lack sufficient evidence under Washington State law.
The officials also said that the bodycam footage does confirm that Dave is responsible for the accident. Also, the Attorney officer said that the comments made by the Seattle Police officer, Daniel Auderer on the accident were appalling and deeply troubling and as a result, Auderer was ousted from patrol in September 2023 and reassigned to a non-operational position.
