Kawardha. The bodies of 19 people killed in the accident in Kawardha, Chhattisgarh have been cremated. The last rites of 17 people were performed in a single pyre. It contained bodies of 11 people of the same family. During this time the atmosphere became very sad. At the same time, the bodies of two women were cremated at their in-laws' house.

The state government will give a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those killed in the accident and Rs 50 thousand to the injured. This was announced by Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai. He said that the government is with the families of the deceased in this hour of grief. We are seeing to it that the injured get good treatment facilities.

11 people of the same family died

Among those who died, there were 11 people from the same family. In the funeral pyre of 17 people burnt together, 11 people were from the same family. Ratan Singh, a member of the family, told that he used to go every day to pluck tendu leaves, sometimes by bike and sometimes by four wheeler. The person driving the car did not have much experience.

Pickup vehicle fell into 20 feet deep pit

In fact, on May 20, the speeding pickup overturned and fell into a 20 feet deep pit. 19 people died in the accident, more than 7 people were injured. The accident happened near Bahpani village of Kukdur police station area. According to SP Abhishek Pallav, 18 women are among those who died. Among them there are three girls including mother and daughter. The injured were sent to the hospital by ambulance. There were 25 people in the pickup during the accident. Everyone was returning to the village after plucking tendu leaves. The accident was so severe that 13 people died on the spot.

President, Prime Minister also expressed grief over the accident

Contrary to the claims of the police, the villagers say that 30 to 35 people were traveling in the pickup at the time of the accident. There is a possibility of an accident due to brake failure. After the accident, many leaders including President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Vishnu Dev Sai, former CM Bhupesh Baghel and PCC Chief Deepak Baij have expressed grief.

Chief Minister said – this should not happen again

Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said- This amount is in addition to the assistance and insurance amount given to the accident victims. The administration has also been instructed to take extra care of road safety. Every possible measure should be taken to prevent such accidents so that such accidents do not happen again.

Deputy CM Vijay Sharma met the crying family members

Deputy CM Vijay Sharma canceled all his programs in Raipur and reached Kawardha. First of all he reached Pandariya District Hospital and inquired about the well being of the injured. After this he went to Semraha, the village of those who died in the accident and met their families. All the deceased were residents of the same village.

Bhupesh Baghel said – Government has stopped the insurance scheme

Former CM of the state Bhupesh Baghel also reached the hospital to meet the injured who were undergoing treatment. He also went to the village of the deceased and met their family members. He said that this is a very sad accident. I have told the officials that everyone should get good treatment in the hospital. Shaheed Mahendra Karma Bima Yojana was for tendu leaf workers, which has been stopped by the government. The victims of the accident will now get only government compensation.
