Pune: A special police in Pune sent three accused in police custody till May 24, hours after they were taken into police custody. The three Naman Bhutada, Sachin Katkar, and Sandip Sangale have been accused of serving liquor to the 17-year-old minor, who minutes later crushed two bikers to death under his Porsche car. The incident occurred between the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The accused and his friends had consumed liquor in two restaurants.

The father of accused was held in the morning

Earlier on Tuesday, the police took the father of the accused in custody, who was on the run. Apart from him, the other three were also arrested this morning. Sharing details of their arrest, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said as per PTI, “We have detained the teenager’s father from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and he is being brought to Pune and will be arrested in the case registered against him.

The police had earlier registered the case against the teenager’s father, a real estate developer, under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Section 75 refers to “willful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses.” On the other hand, section 77 refers to supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs. Notably, the boy was arrested after the incident but was released on bail.

Devendra Fadnavis condemns “lenient” punishment

Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the “lenient” punishment awarded by the awarded the Juvenile Justice Board.
