27 lakh electricity workers will strike on this day, power supply in these big cities of the country
Uttar Pradesh On July 9, about 27 lakh power workers working across the country will go on strike against the privatization of two power distribution companies. All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) President Shailendra Dubey said that the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to privatize Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited and Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited. These distribution companies supply electricity to 42 out of 75 districts of the state.
Electricity supply can be affected in the whole country
Shailendra Dubey said, “On the call of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE), power workers, junior engineers and engineers across the country have organized extensive protests against the privatization of distribution companies.” Dubey said that on July 9, 27 lakh power employees have decided to protest against the privatization of two power distribution companies (discom) of Uttar Pradesh. Electricity supply in the country can also be affected by the involvement of employees on such a large scale.
Why privatization of power distribution companies is being opposed
The AIPEF president said, “If the power supply is affected due to the strike, we will not be responsible for it.” Dubey alleged that Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited and some big officials of the government are conniving with selected private houses. They want to sell the discom properties worth lakhs of crores of rupees to private houses at a quarter to one price.
He said that if Discom is privatized, farmers and poor people will be deprived of many benefits. Electricity workers will mainly protest in Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Vijayawada, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Vadodara, Rajkot, Guwahati, Shillong, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar, Jammu, Shimla, Dehradun, Patiala, Jaipur, Kota and Lucknow.
