Youth hacked to death in Kolkata’s busy street, accused on the run

Kolkata: In a shocking incident that took place in West Bengal’s Kolkata on Friday, a youth was publicly hacked to death. The identities of the deceased and accused have not been revealed yet and the probe is underway. The accused is still on the run.

Scuffle between two men turns ugly

The broad daylight murder of the youth took place on the busy street of Kolkata’s Chitpur. “After a heated argument over some petty issue, a scuffle broke out between two men on Krishnalal Das Road. Meanwhile, a man took out a sharp object and slit the throat of another. The man was taken to a nearby hospital immediately after the incident but was declared dead by the doctors,” an eyewitness said.

Accused on the run

The police officers rushed to the spot immediately after they were alerted by the passers-by. However, taking advantage of the crowd, the accused fled the spot. Meanwhile, a video shot by one of the passers-by has gone viral on social media, in which the accused could be seen sitting on the side of the road.

Investigation underway

The Kolkata police have filed a case against the accused under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and initiated the probe. Both the accused and the deceased were yet to be identified. “Based on the video, the police are trying to identify the accused and arrest him as early as possible. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination,” a police officer said.

Senior citizen was beaten to death

Earlier on September 10, a senior citizen was beaten to death for stopping a man from beating kids involved in a spat over a game of marbles. The accused, who was identified as Bappa Sardar, was arrested immediately after he committed the heinous crime.
