The policeman with the ‘walkie-talkie’ confiscated around Rs 40,000 from him saying that he had suspicion about the money.

Chennai: A sub-Inspector police of the Greater Chennai police has been arrested for snatching Rs 34,500 from a man when he was waiting at an ATM to deposit the cash in his bank account in the city’s Kilpauk area.
Subsequently, the Commissioner of Police, Chennai has ordered to suspend him.

The accused identified asM Ramamurthy, 55, special sub-inspector of police, ICF traffic RSI, of 1988 batch police constable. He was accused of snatching Rs 34,500 from Siddique of Pudupet when he was waiting at an ATM kiosk in Kilpauk to deposit the cash in his bank account. The policeman threatened him to slap false cases on him and chased him away after snatching cash from him. Based on his complaint, police personnel traced him with the help of the CCTV cameras and arrested Ramamurthy.

Later, he told Siddique to come to the Kilpauk police station, explain properly, and get the money back, and he left the place quickly.

Based on the complaint, the police formed a special team to nab the criminal and found him with the help of the CCTV camers installed in the area.
