Beijing, April 17 (IANS). Recently, China's domestic blueberries have entered the market, becoming the “main force” in the blueberry consumption market. Blueberry sales have increased significantly in many offline stores and wholesale markets.

In China, technology-enabled blueberry cultivation has become common. Innovation can be seen at various stages of development from blueberry breeding to planting in many places. It also promotes the development of the blueberry industry.

Wu Wanlung, a blueberry researcher at the National Agricultural High-Tech Industrial Zone in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, China, told reporters that at first it took three years for a blueberry plant to be planted in the soil until it was harvested. Now, after greenhouse cultivation, high yields can be obtained in just one year.

Additionally, blueberries grown in greenhouses rather than outdoors can be brought to market at least 15 to 20 days earlier, and earlier bringing to market significantly increases economic benefits.

It is noteworthy that China is the world's largest blueberry producing country and the world's largest blueberry importing country. According to statistics, the annual domestic demand for blueberries is about 10 lakh tons. Therefore, there is still wide scope for the development of domestically produced blueberries in the future.
