Google is supercharging the Maps experience with several new features. For starters, it's adding a new lower-carbon travel feature, making Google Search of a destination more convenient, and adding AI summaries on Maps. Additionally, there are a slew of other features that it is adding to Google Maps to make the navigation experience better.

Google Maps will show lower-carbon travel alternatives

Google Maps will soon show lower-carbon travel alternatives. Maps will display public transit or walking suggestions next to the driving route, helping you have a look at some of the low-carbon other ways of getting to your destination. This can be useful for a closer destination, where you can rely on walking or public transport. This feature will be available in over 15 cities around the world, including London, Paris, Rome, and others.

Find info for long-distance train/bus routes in Search

You can now look for trains in Search and get train routes directly there, unlike before, where you'd have to tap on Maps to look for routes. This feature is now available for trains in 38 countries and for buses in 15 countries.

Further, Google has launched an API for developers that shows estimated emissions. Developers can use it for their website or app.

Find the exact spot of the charging station with AI Summaries

Google Maps will help you find the exact location of an EV charging station with AI summaries. The feature, with the help of the reviews' will bring up exact instructions to find the charging station. For instance, it will tell you to enter the underground parking lot and look towards the right or left to find it.

Further, it is now asking EV users who charged at a station to share their feedback such as the charging plug they use and estimated waiting time for charging. The more information Google has, the better results it will show to users looking for an EV charging station near them.

Furthermore, Google for those with EVs having Android Auto will be able to see EV charging stations at a glance on their infotainment screen. Also, if your EV is low on charge, the in-car map will automatically suggest nearby charging stops.

Like always, some of these features may take time to arrive in your region. Also, you need to update the Maps app to the latest version on your devices to get the most recent updates.
