Kolkata, 29 April (HS). In the 47th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by seven wickets. With this victory, KKR has reached second place in the points table by winning five out of eight matches. Varun Chakraborty was adjudged Player of the Match for his excellent performance.

In the match played on Monday at Eden Garden, Kolkata, Delhi gave a target of 153 runs to Kolkata. Kolkata, chasing the target of 154 runs, won the match by seven wickets. Phil Salt scored a stormy half-century for Kolkata. He scored 68 runs in 33 balls with seven fours and five sixes. Sunil Narayan scored 15 runs, Rinku Singh scored 11 runs. After this, captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 33 runs and Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 26 runs. Venkatesh led the team to victory by hitting a six on the third ball of the 17th over. For Delhi, Akshar Pahal took two wickets while L Williamson got one success.

Earlier, Delhi scored 153 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs against Kolkata. The batting order of Delhi Capitals, who came to bat first after winning the toss, was seen struggling in this match. The team lost three wickets in the powerplay. Shaw was out after scoring 13 runs, McGurk after scoring 12 runs and Hope after scoring six runs. Delhi also lost its fourth wicket in the next over. Harshit Rana bowled Abhishek Porel on the score of 68 runs. He could score only 18 runs in 15 balls. After this Rishabh Pant and Akshar Patel took charge. There was a partnership of 25 runs between the two which was broken by Varun Chakraborty. He dismissed captain Rishabh Pant. He returned after scoring 27 runs in 20 balls. After this, Tristan Stubbs, who came to bat at number seven, could not stay on the wicket for long. He was out after scoring just four runs. In this match, Akshar Patel scored 35 runs, Kumar Kushagra scored one run, Rasikh Salam scored eight runs, Kuldeep Yadav scored 35 runs and Lizad scored one run. Kulidap and Lizad remained unbeaten.

For KKR, Varun Chakraborty took three wickets while Vaibhav and Harshit got two wickets each. Whereas, Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narayan got one wicket each.
