Bhopal: Within hours of Pritam Lodhi securing victory as the BJP MLA from the Pohari constituency in Shivpuri, a police complaint was filed against his son Dinesh Lodhi for alleged criminal intimidation in Gwalior district. Pritam Lodhi emerged victorious over Congress candidate Arvind Lodhi by a substantial margin of 21,000 votes, marking the BJP’s first win in this seat in over three decades.

Electoral rivalry

The incident in question unfolded as part of an electoral rivalry, with Dinesh Lodhi purportedly issuing threatening remarks to a man named Sikandar Singh Yadav. The latter immediately filed a complaint with the Purani Chhawni police station in Gwalior. The confrontation occurred late on Sunday around 10 pm, when Dinesh Lodhi, now the son of an elected MLA, allegedly warned Yadav of severe repercussions.

Sikandar Yadav, a resident of Jalalpur, took proactive measures by recording the entire conversation and reporting the incident to the authorities at the Purani Chawni police station. Subsequently, the police initiated legal proceedings against Dinesh Lodhi, citing intimidation, based on Sikandar’s formal complaint and the provided audio evidence.

Escalation of tensions

This incident stems from electoral differences that emerged during the civic polls campaign, where tensions escalated due to opposing roles played by Dinesh Lodhi and Sikandar Yadav. The ongoing disputes between the two parties have been a result of their conflicting involvement in the election.

Legal action assured

Authorities from the Old Cantonment police station confirmed the receipt of the threat complaint against Dinesh Lodhi, assuring that a case has been officially registered and an active investigation is underway. The police emphasised that further actions would be taken based on emerging evidence and facts related to the case.
