Seventy-five years after Robert Koch discovered the cholera bacteria in 1884, this Bengali scientist discovered that a poison produced by the bacteria causes dehydration and thickening of the blood, ultimately leading to cholera. The patient loses his life.
Introduction
Shambhunath Dey was born in 1915 in a village called Garibti, Hooghly district, West Bengal. His father Dashrathi Dey and mother Chhatteshwari were from an ordinary family. Dashrathi Dey was the elder son of his father, hence after his father's death he took charge of the family himself. He worked as an assistant in a shop and then later started his own small business. Shambhunath Dey's uncle was the only educated person in the family. It was he who generated interest in education in Shambhunath Day.[1]

Although at that time he was officially doing research on a topic related to heart disease at the University College Hospital Medical School in London. He returned to India in 1949 and started working here. Shambhunath Dey started researching the effects of cholera on the kidneys and the changes in them.
