SIM Card New Rules: SIM card rules have been changed for telecom customers. The Telecom Department has changed the rules for purchasing new SIM cards for both retailers and customers. The Telecom Department has also made a provision for penalty for non-compliance. Therefore, there is a need to pay attention to the rules which have come into effect from December 1, 2023. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has implemented new rules for purchasing new SIM cards from December 1, 2023. Now the customer will have to update KYC at the time of purchasing a new SIM card. Also, the dealer of the SIM card should also be verified. Apart from this, the Telecom Authority has banned buying bulk connections. The government has implemented all these rules to prevent online fraud.

New KYC rules for customers
If you are going to buy a new SIM card, then you will have to get KYC done digitally. In which some details will have to be given by the customer. All these details will be captured by scanning the QR code on the Aadhar card. The subscriber will also have to complete KYC at the time of changing the SIM card.

It is also said here that a new SIM card will be given to any customer only after 90 days. That is, if a number was with some other customer, and now it is going to go to a new customer, in such a situation that number will be given to the new customer only after 90 days.

Ban on buying bulk SIM cards
The Department of Telecom has banned bulk purchase of SIM cards. Instead DoT has made a provision for issuing business connections. In this, bulk connections can be given to any organization if it wants to buy bulk connections for its employees. But for that the organization will have to appoint an authorized signatory. Whereas a person can buy a maximum of 9 SIM cards on one ID proof.

Dealers will have to get verification done
Telecom operators will now have to register their franchisees, PoS agents, and distributors. Besides, their verification will also be done. If the operator does not follow this, he will be fined Rs 10 lakh. The Point of Sale (PoS) must register itself under a written agreement. For PoS which are not yet registered, 12 months time has been given to complete the process.
