Travel portal instructed to issue pending air ticket refunds by third week of November

New Delhi, 08 November (HS). The Central Government has ordered various portals related to online travel to refund the pending money related to air ticket booking to consumers during the lockdown period implemented during the Corona epidemic. The government has issued instructions to portals to issue refunds by the end of the third week of November.

The Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs said in a statement issued on Wednesday that it held a meeting with online service providers regarding travel to discuss the issues adversely affecting consumer interests in the travel sector. The issue of non-refund of tickets booked during the ‘lockdown’ period during the Corona pandemic was discussed in the meeting chaired by Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh.

According to the ministry, travel facility providers (aggregators) have been asked to pay the pending airfare amount affected due to the lockdown during the Corona pandemic by the end of the third week of November. Travel aggregators have been directed to start the process of distribution of pending refunds by the end of the third week of November, an official release said.

It is noteworthy that to prevent the Corona epidemic, ‘lockdown’ was imposed across the country for different periods from March 25, 2020. During this period, scheduled commercial flight services were also closed for a certain period.
