Woman protester demanding salary hike dies in Bangladesh

Dhaka, 08 November (HS). A woman worker was killed in a clash with police on Wednesday during a protest against the low wage increase of garment workers in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh administration on Tuesday announced a 56.25 per cent increase in the wages of ‘Ready Made Garments’ (RMG) factory workers, which the workers described as low. During the protests regarding this, three workers have died in seven days.

Eyewitnesses said more than 4,000 workers took to the streets to protest in Ghazipur, 25 kilometers north of Dhaka. Ghazipur is home to readymade garment factories, where thousands of people work. Most of them are women.

B., head of the police post located in a government hospital. Mian told reporters that the woman was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital along with an injured man for treatment and doctors declared her dead.
