Wakad Resident Falls Victim to YouTube Subscription Scam, Loses 35 Lakhs : Cross Talk India

Wakad, 26th February 2024: Between February 12 and February 16, 2024, a 42-year-old resident of Wakad was deceived into losing 35 lakhs by subscribing to a YouTube channel. Yogesh Madhavrao Sonar, a 42-year-old resident of Kaspate Wasti, Wakad, has complained to Wakad Police Station. A case has been initiated against Shambavi Soni, the holder of the Telegram account involved in the incident.

As per the police statement, the perpetrator reached out to the complainant using the mobile number 9885419725. The scam involved instructing the complainant, without any upfront investment, to subscribe to YouTube solely through WhatsApp. Exploiting the initial perception of benefits, the accused systematically deceived the complainant, extracting a total of Rs. 35,35,364 through various bank accounts.

The Wakad police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further.
