New Delhi: India legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni, better known as MS Dhoni, is one of the very few cricketers, who despite having social media accounts, keeps it all low-key and lives a quiet and simple lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of the internet. He has got accounts on Instagram and “X” (formerly Twitter) but chooses not to post very frequently.

At a time when almost every ex-cricketer and even current players have started their YouTube channels and have a very active social media presence, Dhoni opts to stay out of the public eye. As a result, when he posts something on his account, the picture or the video is immensely loved by his fans and gets millions of likes, comments, and shares.

The former India skipper recently talked about the social media platforms Instagram and X and opened up on why he prefers Instagram more, believing “X” has done more harm than good. The cricket icon’s last post on “X” came in January 2021 while the last Instagram post is the video he posted a day after his birthday (July 8, 2023).

While speaking at a promotional event in Dubai alongside CSK mates Stephen Fleming and Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhoni revealed why he dislikes “X” which makes it comfortable for him to go for Instagram. The 42-year-old also felt that the landscape of Instagram has gradually been changing.

Less distractions are better – MS Dhoni

“I prefer Instagram over “X”, I believe that nothing good has happened over there. Specially in India, someone will write something and turn it into a controversy… Why do I need to be there? You know it used to be 140 characters. You can not elaborate. Imagine me putting something over there, and then it is left up to the people to read it and interpret whatever they want to interpret,” Dhoni said at the event hosted by Dubai Eye 103.8.

“So, I am like no that is not for me. Instagram, I still like it because I could put up a picture or a video and just leave it. That is also changing now. I still prefer Instagram, but I’m not very active because I feel less distractions are better. But in between, on and off, I would put something for the fans so that they know this is where I am. Somewhere good, in good hands, doing what I like,” he added.
