Aaditya Adlakha: In what his medical school called a “sudden, tragic, and senseless” incident, a 26-year-old doctoral student from India passed away after being shot inside a car in the US state of Ohio.

Medical School Statement

According to a statement from the medical school, Aaditya Adlakha was a fourth-year doctoral student in the University of Cincinnati Medical School’s program in molecular and developmental biology, WXIX-TV reported. As stated by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, Aaditya Adlakha passed away at the UC Medical Center earlier this month.

Adlakha Declared Critically Ill, Succumbs Two Days Later

On November 9, Cincinnati Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham reported that on the upper deck of the Western Hills Viaduct, officers discovered a man who had been shot inside a car that had collided with a wall. Around 6:20 am, according to police, gunfire was reported in the area by ShotSpotter, a gunfire locator service. Passing motorists reported a shot person inside a car with bullet holes in it to 911, according to Cunningham. After being taken to UC Medical Centre, Aaditya Adlakha was declared critically ill and died two days later.

Investigation Update on Aaditya Adlakha’s Shooting Incident

According to reports in the local media, no arrests have been made since the shooting was made public. “Today, you might have seen news reports of his sudden, tragic and senseless death. Those who knew him, along with fellow students and others who may not have had the fortune to have met Aaditya, may experience a wide variety of reactions, which are understandable and expected,” Senior Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean, University of Cincinnati. College of Medicine, Andrew Filak said.

University Mourns Aaditya Adlakha’s Remarkable Qualities

“He was much-loved, exceedingly kind and humorous, intelligent and sharp, whose research was described as novel and transformative. The focus of his work was to better understand neuroimmune communication and how neuroimmune interactions might contribute to pain and the inflammatory landscape in ulcerative colitis.” Filak was quoted as saying by WLWT.com, a television station in Cincinnati.

Adlakha Graduates with Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology

Aaditya Adlakha traveled from north India to Cincinnati to pursue his medical studies. 2018 saw him graduate from Ramjas College of the University of Delhi in New Delhi with a bachelor’s degree in zoology. 2020 saw him graduate from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi with a master’s in physiology. His car was hit several times. The driver’s side window had at least three bullet holes in it. “As a college and as Aaditya’s academic home, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and to those who knew him as a friend and colleague,” the Cincinnati Enquirer quoted the medical school as saying.
