To end child marriage, the educated class will also have to come forward and cooperate: Asha Tripathi

Siddharthnagar. Manav Seva Sansthan Seva, under the joint aegis of Kailash Satyarthi Children Foundation, organized mass Jan Chaupal meetings to end child marriage in 50 Gram Panchayats of Siddharthnagar. The said awareness program started from 01 May on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and ended today on 10 May in which religious gurus, Pandits, Maulvi, village head, Asha, Aganwadi, group women and village people came together to end child marriage. Resolved to give strong support.

President of the institute, Mrs. Asha Tripathi said that even today child marriage is prevalent in the society, which is a stigma for the civilized society, the government and non-governmental organizations are working together to stop and eradicate this evil practice. She is making people aware about child marriage.
In connection with this effort, human service organization “Seva” and Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation (Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi ji) have jointly worked towards ending violence against children, prevention of child sexual abuse, child abuse and child marriage. We are working towards a society where children can become independent, safe, healthy and educated and join the mainstream of the society.
President of the said institute, Mrs. Asha Tripathi said in the release that in our society, child marriage is a social evil as well as a legal crime, which takes away the rights of children and their childhood. The fifth National Family Health Survey conducted in 2019-2021 revealed that 23.3% of girls aged between 20 and 24 years are married before the legal age of 18 years. This is a cause for serious concern and requires immediate action. To curb this, the government has enacted the Child Marriage Prohibition Act in 2006 which provides prevention and protection of children from early marriage.
But along with effective implementation of the law, public awareness and sensitivity is also necessary to eliminate child marriage from the society.
This year, before Akshaya Tritiya, Rajasthan High Court has ordered to take steps against child marriage in the entire country. Panches and Sarpanches will also be held accountable for their failure to stop child marriage. This order has been issued by the Rajasthan High Court during an urgent hearing on the PIL of Just Rights for Children Alliance. Manav Seva Sansthan Seva, an associate organization of Just Rights for Children Alliance, has appealed to the state government to follow this example and ensure that child marriages do not take place anywhere during Akshaya Tritiya this year. In their petition, these organizations had sought immediate intervention to stop child marriages taking place on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on May 10 this year.
A division bench of Justices Shubha Mehta and Pankaj Bhandari said reports should be sought from all child marriage prohibition officers as to how many child marriages took place in their jurisdiction and what efforts were made to prevent them. This order of the division bench has come just 10 days before Akshaya Tritiya.
After perusing the list of 54 child marriages taking place on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, submitted by the petitioners in closed envelopes, the division bench asked the state government to keep a 'very strict vigil' to stop these marriages. Although some marriages among the names included in this list have already taken place, 46 marriages are yet to take place.
Bhuvan Ribhu, founder of Just Rights for Children Alliance, said, “Child marriage is an abhorrent crime that is pervasive and accepted in our society. This decision of Rajasthan High Court to fix accountability of Panches and Sarpanches for providing information about child marriage cases is historic. When Panchs and Sarpanches become aware of the ill effects of child marriage, their participation and actions in the campaign against this crime will bring about a change in people's attitudes and behavior towards the safety of children. The steps being taken by the Government of India to end child marriage are a lesson for the whole world and this decision of the Rajasthan High Court is another important step in this direction.
Just Rights for Children Alliance is a coalition of five NGOs with over 120 NGOs working across the country on issues related to child protection such as child marriage, child sexual abuse and child trafficking. Are working.
Asha Tripathi, president of human service organization Seva Gorakhpur, said, “This order of Rajasthan High Court is historic which will have far-reaching consequences. This is perhaps the first time in the country that the Panchayati Raj system has been given the power to hold sarpanches accountable for their failure to prevent child marriages in their jurisdiction. As an associate of the Just Rights for Children Alliance, we appeal to district magistrates across Uttar Pradesh to take similar steps. Our initiatives at the grassroots level have proven that community participation is key in addressing issues like child marriage. This court order underscores the need for accountability of local leadership in mobilizing communities to protect children.
According to the release issued, a positive effort has been made by Manav Seva Sansthan in collaboration with religious places, religious leaders and Gram Panchayats on Akshaya Tritiya to end child marriage. It is impossible to make it successful without public support.
Shri Mati Tripathi said that the institute appealed and requested the public for cooperation and support in making the districts Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar and Sant Kabirnagar free from child marriage and in making this campaign successful so that this evil practice can be ended. Mayank Tripathi, Dharmendra Singh, Jaiprakash Gupta, Sunita Kumari, Kamlesh Kumar Chaudhary, Anwarulhaq, Anand, Sumit Singh, Alok Kumar Mishra, Satya Prakash Madheshiya, Ajay Chaudhary, etc. were present in the said program.
