WhatsApp Chat Filters: Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg announced a new feature for WhatsApp users today. The feature called Chat Filters will make it easier for users to find specific chats in the app by letting them filter all their chats based on a preset criterion.

“Rolling out chat filters on WhatsApp so you can find important messages fast. Thanks for the reminder, John,” Zuckerberg wrote in a post on Facebook.

So, what are WhatsApp Chat Filters?

Think of WhatsApp's chat filters as the filters that you apply while using an online ticket booking service like Make My Trip or online retail service such as Amazon. In these services, users can filter out products or services based on factors such as pricing, brand or timing among other things. In case of WhatsApp, these factors will be based on the kind of chats that a user is looking for. According to the details shared by WhatsApp, users will be able to pick from one of three available presets, which include — All, Unread and Groups.

“As people increasingly do more on WhatsApp, it's more important than ever before to be able to get to your messages fast. That's why today we're launching new Chat Filters so you can do that without having to scroll through your full inbox,” WhatsApp said in a blog post explaining the feature.

But there is catch!

While WhatsApp announced the new chat filters feature today, it has allowed users to find unread messages in the app without the hassle of scrolling through the entire chat box for a long time now. Users can access unread chats by tapping the three lines next to the search bar on the top. Today's feature just expands on this feature by giving users a tab-like interface to find their chats. It also makes it easier for users to find their long-lost groups.

How to use WhatsApp chat filters?

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your Android phone or iPhone.

Step 2: Tap the Chats Tab at the bottom.

Step 3: Pick one of these three options:

— Tap the All filter on top if you want to view all your messages.
— Tap the Unread filter if you want to catch up on chats that you missed.
— Tap the Groups filter to access all your groups in one place.

WhatsApp chat filters availability

As far as availability is concerned, WhatsApp says that it has started rolling out the new Chat Filters feature starting today and that it should be available to all users within coming weeks.
