Ind vs Eng 2nd Test: India hit 587 runs in the first innings on the basis of Gill’s historic double century, England’s top order collapsed
IND vs Eng 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights: Second day of Birmingham Test Indian team Shubman Gill scored 587 runs in the first innings on the basis of Shubman Gill’s historic 269 runs. Gill became the Indian captain who played the biggest innings in Test history. Jadeja played 89 and Washington Sundar played important innings of 42 runs. In response, England started very bad and England scored 77 for 3 wickets till the second day stumps.
India showed both batting and bowling on the second day of the second Test match of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy being played on Edgbaston’s ground. Shubman Gill’s historical innings and early shaking of Indian bowlers have put Team India ahead in the match.
On the second day, India started playing ahead 310/5 and Shubman Gill scored 269 runs, moving beyond 114. This is the biggest innings played by any Indian captain in Test cricket. Gill performed both class and patience brilliantly in this innings. Ravindra Jadeja also scored an important innings of 89 runs, while Washington Sundar scored 42 runs. India’s first innings ended for 587 runs.
For England, Shoaib Bashir took 3 wickets, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tong got 2–2 success. Cars, Root and Stokes got 1–1 wickets.
In response, England started very poorly. Jack Crolyse (19), Ben Docket (0) and Oli Pope (0) returned to the pavilion cheaply. India’s fast bowlers bowled well with the new ball and pushed England to the backfoot. However, Joe Root (18*) and Harry Brook (30*) together stabilized the innings and brought the team to 77/3 to the stumps.
For India, Akashdeep took the first two wickets in his second over as Ben Docket and Oli Pope, Mohammad Siraj took the wicket of Jack Crolee.
Now on the third day, India will try to find an option of follow -on by all out of England as soon as possible, while England need longer partnerships to return.
