Lok Sabha Election 2024: Election date changed for Anantnag-Rajori seat, now voting will be held on May 25

The Election Commission has revised the date of voting in Anantnag-Rajori Lok Sabha seat (Jammu and Kashmir). Earlier elections were to be held here on May 7, but now the sixth phase of voting will be held here on May 25.

Let us inform that the Election Commission had taken cognizance of the representation given by various political organizations and candidates including BJP, Apni Party, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), People's Conference to postpone the election of Anantnag-Rajori parliamentary seat. In the representation given for postponing the elections, everyone had cited the closure of Mughal Road due to bad weather as the basis. He said that due to the closure of Mughal Road, the candidates had to face difficulties in reaching the voters. Due to this, common voters could not be contacted within the stipulated time. The candidates giving representation said that this Lok Sabha seat has been created by combining the border districts of Rajouri-Poonch and Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian of South Kashmir.

The only means of communication between South Kashmir and Rajouri-Poonch is the Mughal Road, which has remained closed for several days due to incessant rain and snowfall. The road remained closed even during nomination. Earlier the elections here were to be held on May 7. In such a situation, there was a demand that by postponing the elections, the candidates should be given some more time to campaign.
