New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Ayush Badoni’s controversial run-out in his side’s clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2204 on Tuesday has led to a huge outrage on social media. LSG defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow after successfully chasing down the target of 145 runs with 4 balls to spare.

LSG bagged their sixth win of the season to jump to the 3rd spot on the IPL 2024 points table as they inch closer to a spot in the playoffs. Despite being a low-scoring affair in a season which has seen batters shatter records at will, the game turned out to be a close one with MI bowlers making life difficult for the LSG batters in the run chase.

A controversy erupted in the 19th over of LSG’s run chase when Badoni was deemed run out despite his bat going beyond the crease before the throw hit the stumps. The right-hander was given out as the 3rd umpire felt his bat was in the air at the time of his dive despite it going past the crease. The batter and the rest of the LSG dugout were left shell-shocked after the decision as they couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed.

Many fans too couldn’t believe that the 3rd umpire ruled Badoni out despite him having made his ground well before Ishan Kishan dislodged the bails. The fans accused the umpires and Mumbai Indians of cheating after the controversial dismissal as they felt some part of Badoni’s bat was grounded at the time of his dive.

Here’s how fans reacted to Ayush Badoni’s controversial dismissal in LSG vs MI clash:

Badoni’s dismissal didn’t cost LSG

Though he was dismissed controversially, Badoni’s run-out didn’t cost LSG as they managed to chase down the target of 145 runs comfortably in the end to beat Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets. After Marcus Stoinis’ 45-ball 62 set the stage, Nicholas Pooran scored an unbeaten 14 to take the hosts over the line in the tricky chase.

Lucknow Super Giants dealt a big blow to Mumbai Indians’ playoffs chances with the victory as they pushed the five-time champions to the brink of early elimination from IPL 2024. Mumbai Indians have managed only three wins in nine matches so far this season and are reeling at the ninth spot on the points table.
